What is your excuse?

At only 14 , Netra Venkatesh has defied the notion " age is just a number" to lead a a remarkable all girls global movement, SpunkGo.
1. What does your Company Do?

SpunkGO is a global movement that is providing free educational webinars to young women across developing countries.

2. Take us to memory lane, what sparked the birth of Spunk Go?

The 2020 COVID 19 lockdown greatly contributed to the birth of Spunk GO.

With the new normal being studying and meeting online, I too, at the confinement of my home had to adopt to the transition of physical to online classes.

My experience was eye opening, I realized that one could actually study from home and attain first-hand knowledge from the best teachers too, for free or a relatively lower price.

By the time my course climaxed, I had countless stories to share with my two closest instagram friends, together we believed in the new idea of online learning, we embraced it and discovered we too could gather young girls and women virtually to learn and now here we are...

What is unique about Spunk Go?

Our workshops are entirely free to whoever attends them.

In addition, we bring speakers from diverse social spaces that share a wealth of information in leadership, business, social impact, STEM and so much more at no charge but all for women empowerment.

Do you work alone?

No I don't, we are a supportive group of 30 girls that identify themselves as ambassadors.
" Some of the SpunkGo Country ambassadors".

How do you identify the women to speak at the SpunkGo sessions?

The biggest percentage of our speakers has come through our partnership with a world wide organization, Key Note Speakers.

Other speakers have come through referrals, written applications and some we personally look out for them.

What are some of the achievements SpunkGo has attained over the years?

Recently SpunkGo was among the top 50 projects selected for the HSBC NextGen program, we have birthed new chapters in Malawi, Pakistan and SriLanka.

We have been represented by our founder, Netra as a guest speaker at the 24hr World Women’s submit and IFUND Women has successfully crowd sourced for us.

Have you faced any challenges and how have you overcome them?

Yes surely yes, most people have treated me and other ambassadors as mere kids who are  only doing a school project yet we are so much more. We have kept moving forward, preaching the need to empower women through educating them.

There have also been several scenarios that require signing agreements with keynote speakers yet I am ineligible. My father has been so instrumental in supporting our work through standing in as a guardian. He signs the paperwork on my behalf.

What are you most proud of?

We started as a social media conversation and  now we have grown into a global organization with over  5000 women members in 21 countries.

How can we join SpunkGo?

To join the SpunkGO community, go to our website www.SpunkGo.com and register for the next webinar.  Once you do so, you will be able to
receive all future SpunkGo updates and be added to the country what's app group from where you belong.

WHY WE LOVE THIS STORY?

Netra's story not only questions the excuses a number of people give as failure to execute their dreams but also reminds us that we are our only limitation.

The story also brings to our attention reveals a new generation of young girls and women hungry for knowledge.

You can follow SpunkGO on Facebook and LinkedIn.
