Time and growth never stop
Whatever makes you uncomfortable is an opportunity for growth - Bryant McGill.
For most people, Covid- 19 has been a big transition, adopting to life styles they never imagined has been easy and hard for some. Others are saying it is the same old routine so they find everything normal.
It can not be the same story for those that have seen opportunities at such a time and as Bryant McGill says "whatever makes you uncomfortable is an opportunity for growth". Just Look closely, we can only be left better
From Kenya , we feature Zipporah Nyangara Mumbi , a foresighted extra- ordinary woman that has mastered the art of embracing opportunities in all seasons.
Zipporah Nyangara Mumbi is the team leader of a grass root organization in Nakuru County called Haven of Dreams.
Haven of Dreams focuses on psycho-social support, mental wellness, reproductive health, gender equality and youth empowerment. However, with all these amazing activities, the organization is not limited to engaging in other projects that directly communicate and contribute to their mission .
Zipporah also known as Zippy is a cohort 35 YALI alumni and a member of Woman Rising , a non profit community for women based in Ghana.
She shares with us how the pandemic has affected her organization.
Being a lover of community work, the outbreak of covid - 19 in Kenya only meant that our relationship with the community would be cut short, the government directives to avoid social gatherings, slowed down our activities.
All we have ever known since the inception of our organization is love for community and making our communities better places for everyone, this has always been our driving force. We carried the attitude ' there is something good in this time".
Covid 19 has been a blessing in disguise to us. Some of our activities were slowed down but we have continued to serve the people closest to us and that is our community. We have carried out awareness campaigns and connected our beneficiaries to different service providers such as family planning agencies
Door to door awareness campaigns
The team's capabilities have been strengthened as a result of the capacity building classes we have been taking online, we have been hosted for a radio talk show to talk about teenage pregnancy, we have registered street families for a government program called Kenya Youth Empolyability opportunities - KYEOP that aims at empowering the youth from ages 18 to 29

"My greatest lesson has been time never stops, growth never stops. Yes, the pandemic struck us hard but if we look closely there are opportunities to grow, to be better people. You have to be committed to yourself and your development".
