Thinking Outside the box
One of the biggest challenges non profit organizations face is funding. A few, like AHI Uganda have risen up to defy this odd by being so creative. AHI Uganda has introduced "The Mercy Bag", a local fundraising campaign that has supported many of their charitable programs.

We are captivated by the name Mercy Bag, Can you tell what it is?
Mercy Bag is a donation bag in form of a box placed in several locations for well-wishers and donors to contribute to our noble cause of transforming lives.
How and when did Mercy Bag start?
Mercy Bag began in 2017 when members and well-wishers willingly contributed money, food, scholastic materials and clothes to support the needy families in the slum areas of Banda and Kasenyi.
You spoke of Mercy Bag supporting other programs implemented by AHI Uganda, What are these programs?
The Mercy Bag is a strong shoulder to The Bursary Scheme, an education program that extends a hand to vulnerable children that have highly excelled in their academics but have no means to continue.
Others are: The Jajja project, The Abstinence Character Change Clubs (ACC Clubs) in Schools, Hope for a Fresh start in prisons, skilling women and youths community programs and construction of latrines plus bore holes.
Why the name Mercy Bag?
Mercy Bag represents compassion. It is the best way to connect the giver and the receiver, knowing that whatever one reaps, one will sow..
How does Mercy Bag Work?
We make Mercy bag boxes, label them and with permission from concerned authorities, we distribute them amongst our other branches, partners, corporate and religious Institutions.
In addition, these boxes are accompanied with written proposals and donation request letters to support the campaign.
What items can well wishers donate to the Mercy Bag?
Food, scholastic materials, clothes, mattresses, blankets, money, sanitary pads, and any other form of help is highly appreciated.
Who benefits from the the Mercy Bag?
Vulnerable groups of people like orphans, elderly, prisoners, refugees, teenage mothers, HIV/AIDS patients, women, youth, adolescent girls in need of sanitary pads and slum dwellers.
How many People have been impacted by the Mercy Bag?
The Mercy Bag has impacted over 7000 people through our bursary scheme, the women hands on skills trainings, sanitary pads, bible and food distributions.

Food, scholastic materials, clothes, mattresses, blankets, money, sanitary pads, and any other form of help is highly appreciated.
How do we send these items to you?
Donations can be sent to our postal address “P.O.Box 40491, Nakawa or directly delivery to our Head Offices in Kireka- Kamuli zone C.
For monetary giving, contributions are made to Diamond Trust Bank AC/no 0139416001 for Ugandan Shillings and AC/no 0139416002 for dollars.
What would you want people to know about the Mercy Bag?
When you give to the Mercy Bag, you touch, transform, and restore lost hope in the lives of so many under privileged people.
The Mercy Bag is one way of fulfilling the greatest command " Love your neighbor as you love yourself". It is only when you love and wish good for yourself that you cab extend it to another person too.
Why we Love this Story?
This Story shows that we are all capable of making a contribution in the lives of others in the most simplest ways. It also portrays the power of community coming together to solve their own predicaments.
