Heart Beat for Children
Ronald Lumala is a Ugandan change-maker preaching so loudly the royal law "love your neighbor as yourself", not only in words but in actions too.
His initiative, Raise all African Children (RAAC), has rekindled lost hope in the lives of over 300 vulnerable children especially those living in the slum communities of Uganda and other parts of the continent. We unfold his story for you...
What should we know about RAAC?
Raise All African Children Ministries is a Christian-based organization that began way back in 2017.
We believe that every child deserves to grow up into the person they were created to be, but above all into a Christ-Centered leader that the world is looking for.
How did this movement begin?
I used to reach out to vulnerable children from different rural and slum communities that were in great dire need. These were homeless kids that slept in the gutters, downtown and had lost hope of what the future holds for them.
Tell us about your childhood and in did it ignited your passion for helping vulnerable children?
Oh yes, I grew up in the slums somewhere in Kawempe, life was hard. I studied at a small school in the outcasts, food, and water was hard to go by. You were either full or empty.
I told myself, "when I grow up, "I have to be a part of the change and transformation of lives and communities, looking back now, I have no regrets, my childhood was preparing me to start RAAC.
How have you impacted the lives of children in Uganda?
We have several activities we do with the children with all the love that we carry in our hearts. Prayer meetings, Praise and worship, Bible studies and giveaways, counseling emotionally disturbed children, those living in abundance and lack, back-to-school campaigns, and Christmas outreaches.
Some of these children live on the mercies of others, During holidays, we identify a gazetted place in Kampala, for instance, Kisenyi, and cook food for them.
Why children and not anyone else?
I believe that there is so much greatness in each of these children, whether they are homeless or not, they can be great leaders if they are loved, cared for, and groomed in the right way.
What gives you the greatest joy working with these children?
The love we share and knowing that they are becoming better people, and not just troublesome children in society. Over twenty children have traced back their homes, they are starting new lives, quitting drugs, transitioning into teenagers that love God. It is just amazing watching them outgrow bad habits.
Any message to the children and youths that will read this story for generations to come?
No matter how small you are or however much you live in lack, no education, no food, or good clothing. God's purpose for you will always be 100 percent perfect, and God has decided a great destiny for your life.
What has been your greatest lesson?
Challenges will always be there, but the word of God says " he has overcome it all ", whenever you fall, rise again and believe with God all things are possible.
Why do we love this story?
Everybody has an assignment that cannot be denied or delayed by external forces but by only you.
Ronald was born into an impoverished home and community, As he grew older, the fire to help young children that were once memories of himself kept stirring him up to be a part of the solution, to touch and change their lives.
