Cajon Music House

Image
Every day, a new artist comes to the scene with one good hit and after a couple of months it is no more. We ask why ?  We discovered that at times some artists lack mentors to hold their hands, walk them through the journey and back them up, they only have themselves to lean on. Meet  Collin Sserunjogi, a passionate music artist in Uganda creating a safe space for other music lovers to commune,  grow,  celebrate and share their music. We first saw Collin on stage in 2018 during Tell a Story's bonfire night at Save Street Children Uganda.  The emotion in his music created chills, each string he hit was nothing but a story with a beautiful melody. Well, Collin started his journey from playing the guitar during his free time and being in possession of a unique instrument called the Cajon. The Cajon is box shaped and its roots are from the land of Peru, an Espanola speaking community. As my passion for music grew, the desire to cre...

Minute 5

We all love food , don't we?  I have heard some friends of mine say " food is bae, we are one,  I do not joke with food,  with food , I am sorted... haha".  But what about the process of preparing that delicious food,  it starts by you going to the market to shop for it.  To you that has hated going to the market place whether it is Nakasero,  Nakawa  or Owino because of a bad attitude from the seller, one vendor carrying sacks of food over your head, irritated by the commotion or that rubbish that has made a home in all corners. Worry not. Minute 5 is bringing the market closer to you Minute 5 is an online grocery delivery company located in the Pearl of Africa, Uganda . The Banana Fiber

Image
On July 24th at 6:22pm, I sent a text message to Dimma on his Facebook page asking for his story.  At that time, I was burning with the fire to tell a story,  I saw his profile picture from a mutual friend we shared called Lynne Itungo.  I was so curious to  view his profile. My hands quickly moved to the click button.  I followed every post to the minutest detail. I could only see the love for banana fiber.  I was fascinated that banana fibre can make really nice products. As a young girl, together with my little friends, we only used banana fiber to make dolls and ropes for skipping. As I sent that message, I was praying hard that he could answer, and it worked he replied, and today, three months later, I share his story. As we kick start November, Diimas story challenges us to ask : Have    you acted on your idea the past ten months? Muhammed Dimma Mawejje is the team leader of Mawejje Creations, a social enterprise and banana fiber...

Stories of Us@ 2

Image
Two years ago, our Foundation: Tell a Story Foundation was born. We share stories of people that have walked the journey with us:  Kitaka Alex facilitated a class way back in 2018 at Save Street Children Uganda. This is his story: There is a child in us that remains. There is a heartbeat that can’t be stained There is a soul that won’t ever be chained. That is always child like… My experience with Tell a Story Foundation Uganda, begun with facilitating classes on reading and writing skills at Save Street Children Uganda.  This aimed at instilling a culture of story-telling in the children.  I learned that we have so much to learn from children and so do they need to learn from us.  They are not children just because they are vulnerable, neither is it because they are susceptible to very many ills in society. They are not children because they can not have access to basic needs or because they lack someone to put a smile on their faces, but als...
